The Cervantes Institute is the public institution in charge of “universally promoting the teaching, study and use of Spanish and contributing to the dissemination of Hispanic cultures abroad”. It has official centers in the five continents and periodically organizes tests to verify the level of Spanish of the students in relation to those established in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), that is, from level A1 to C2.
It should be noted that these are “the official titles accrediting the degree of competence and command of the Spanish language, which are awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of Spain ”and which are required for academic, professional and / or administrative matters (obtaining Spanish nationality for people born in countries that are not Spanish-speaking).
