Learning Spanish is much more than just knowing some words from the Cervantes language or just a momentary fad between the people that are interested in learning languages. Speaking Spanish is living, and most of all, feeling a millenary culture in which there are more and more participants all around the world, at the sight of the last published reports, like, for example, “The Spanish: a living language.” But, how can you learn Spanish?.
La Rioja Spanish School is the first private Spanish school that teaches Spanish as a foreign language in La Rioja. Since it’s opening, it applies a successful teaching-learning method based on three principals:
Definitely, in the learning of a language “less is more”. This means that small groups (no more than 6 students per group) have a favourable environment for each student to disinhibits himself and get confident enough to practice the language in all its skills. Besides, the school finds highly positive the variation of participants in different groups inside the same MCER level, for the sake of fomenting a cultural exchange and to enhance the social abilities and the learning of the language.
In the current world, students of any discipline have a tighter agenda and even in some cases they have difficulties in accessing the knowledge in person. To palliate this, and to seduce students into learning Spanish, it is necessary that the language schools offer a wide variety of options, so that the students configure their own course “á la carte”. These preferences must be reflected in the time range in which the student wants to receive the teaching, in the number of hours that wants to do per week, and in the periodicity of their course (monthly, quarterly or Academic Course). In La Rioja Spanish School, students are free to set up their courses according to their availability and necessities, which generates a notable trust towards the school, and to the Spanish learning method as well.
This can’t just be a mere slogan that each language school has and that not many schools actually apply. The success of our method is based in the design of each class that the teachers prepare according to the profile of their participants, and not only on their linguistic level related with the MCER, but in their preferences, tastes and needs. Focusing the classes in the development of the oral expression of their students, the teachers obtain value information that will later work to choose or elaborate the materials that will be used in the classes.
What do students think about this Spanish learning method?
During this time, we’ve had the pleasure of forming students of different cultures and countries that at the end of their time at the school have answered a short questionnaire with the objective of evaluate the quality of the used method. To the question: “What do you think about the teachers and the classes of the school?” have freely answered the following:

I feel good in this Spanish school. The teachers are professional, patient and friendly. About Spanish classes, the most interesting are the different lessons every day and the exercises to practice grammar, listening and conversation.

“When I arrived I did not understand any Spanish. From the beginning, they explained to me in English while I couldn’t understand what they were saying in Spanish, little by little I have learned to listen, speak, read and write in Spanish. ”

“Everything went very well, the teachers have helped me a lot with my Spanish. Also, I met many friends from different countries of the world. ”

“The teachers at the school are good. At first it was a little difficult to understand the accent, but after the first class it was not a problem. We really like the possibility of being able to interact with the teachers at all times, they are very flexible in that regard. ”

“I have met several different teachers at this school and therefore the classes have also been different. My opinion of this school is that as the approach and method of the different teachers are different, the classes have been more interesting and enriching to study here. ”
